It's a new year which means one year closer to graduating and making a change in the world.
THE HUNGER GAMES
Over break I spent my nights reading the Hunger games. With the movie coming out in a few months I felt it was definitely my duty to read these books. Everyone else was doing it. although many people have said that the first book was the best of the trilogy and the third book was a little bit of a let down I loved all three of them. If you haven't read the books yet I won't spoil them for you because you should read them. But the books are about a young girl who is forced to participate in tournament to the death with other teenagers from around the country. All three books travel through the tournament and the after effects of the tournament.
These books are a short and an easy read. perfect books to read and finish before classes get too busy with homework.

This new calling of being in complete control of the ward media blog is going to be a trip for all of us. It's my first time doing a blog and being a critique/promoter of media
For movie lovers out there looking for a good flick, the movie that topped the polls this last week was Puss in Boots. Seriously, Shrek's little feline friend has hit it big. For those of you looking for a movie with a little more patriotism, actually A LOT more patriotism, our non-US ward members laughed at how patriotic the movie was, I enjoyed it and feel like I'm going to join the military soon. For those of you who don't know the movie yet it's Captain America and it is available in Red Box. Warning, Red Box raised their prices from $1.00 to $1.20 starting on November 1st when checking out at the box but its still $1 when ordering online, at least until Dec 1st.
For all those acoustic guitar lovers, Acoustic Explosion is on Wednesday night at 7 in the Varsity Theater. It's free and a great way to relax in the middle of the week, maybe bring a date. No date, show up and enjoy it with the rest of the ward members.

Another Semester Down...
Well, for all of us here in the YSA 183rd Ward, there is probably bittersweet feelings. Yes, the semester is over for many of us students, but that means that we all will go our separate ways. In an ironic twist of fate, the ward media website is also very ill-named since the name of the ward changed... But that just means we will have to change it for the fall!
During the summer, be sure to pick out some awesome movies, books and music to view, read, and listen to. I myself will be tearing through the 12th book of the Wheel of Time series, and hope to also read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Movies-wise, I really am just looking forward to the upcoming(in a year+) The Hobbit by Peter Jackson. If you haven't had a chance to see some behind the scenes work, here is an awesome 10 minute documentary:
Awesome The Hobbit Preview!
Also, if thanks to everyone who came to the Star Wars Double Trilogy Marathon! I hope to make it an annual thing. Next year, maybe I will do it after finals instead of right before... Ha.
Thanks to all for a wonderful year! Enjoy the summer, and look forward to more awesomeness in P-Town in the fall.
Respectfully,
The Admins

Forrest Gump
“Hello, my name is Gump. Forrest Gump.”
Love,
“Life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get.”
“Run, Forrest, RUN!!”
“Run, Forrest, RUN!!”
You’ve probably heard at least two of the quotes above in the last year. That’s because Forest Gump is one of the iconic movies of all time. Starring Tom Hanks, our favorite cast away, airport terminal bum, and Apollo 13 astronaut, Forrest Gump tells the epic story of a unique boy from the south – some call him slow (indeed his IQ is about 5 points below the state’s definition of “normal”) but he is such a sincere and naturally happy guy that it never bothers him. All he cares about is his best friend Jenny.
As he goes throughout life, Forrest unknowingly alters historical events like the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, and the Civil Rights Movement, but all the while his mind is only on Jenny. So if you’re a romance kinda guy (assuming all girls already are J ), then you’ll love this one. If you’re a comedy kinda gal (assuming all guys think that they are J ), then you’ll love this one. It’s also got some sweet action and drama too. If you’re a history person or like movies that have a good social message, then you won’t be disappointed. And if you like shrimp, then you’ll definitely love this one.
So come on over to Apartment 62 at 7:00 on Saturday night. Bring some popcorn or treats if you’d like! The real entertainment will be the company (us) and the film! Our version of Forrest Gump is EDITED as well, which makes this amazing story of all the better. We’ll see you there!
Love,
Kyle Nelson
Gotta get me a haircut like that.

Another Month, A Beginning for Movies!
So, the program of watching and reviewing movies will finally begin! This Saturday, everyone is invited to a movie night in Apartment 62 at 7:00 pm to watch the (edited) film Forrest Gump. A review should be up by the end of the week, as written by Kyle Nelson. To see other movie night selections, just click on the Movie Night link on the left of the page. You can also sign up for the movie nights on this googledoc! Provo Events should be updated for this week, and anyone can feel free to edit and add events as they find them.
As for me and my house, we watched a film called Bright Leaves this week. It's a documentary following tobacco in North Carolina, and the damaging effects it has had over the last couple centuries. While the message is solid in the movie, it took me a few hours to get through the movie to pause, yawn, nap, etc. So, while it is a good historical film, I would probably not put it on my top 10. Hopefully I have better luck on that this coming week... I also filmed a little short for my Media Arts application, and will post that here soon as well. Have you made any short films? Do you want to share them? Post a comment with a link on here to share with the ward!

A Beginning
Well, this blog is the result of desires for a place to find suggestions with regard to alternative media choices for all who can agree on the fact that media these days is, well, rubbish. To sort through all of this media by oneself would be quite a job, and so here one and all can contribute as to awesome things to do that are also edifying and refreshing to body and soul.
Ok, that all sounds rather administrative, but we will also try to find the coolest things to do here in P-town, as this is where this website is based. Know of any cool things going on? Cool movies that came out? A fun show that you keep up with? Feel free to share!
As I have recently injured my shoulder/collarbone, and typing is not very easy/fun right now, I will start off with the top 25 list from Amazon's good clean movies, but in the future it will definitely be more personal and awesome!
Here it is...
1- Pride and Prejudice (the A and E version)
2- The Newsies
3- Little Women
4- You've Got Mail
5- While You Were Sleeping
6- Return to Me
7- The Count of Monte Cristo
8- The Princess Bride
9- The Lord of the Rings
10- Star Wars
11- The Majestic
12- Spiderman
13- Kate and Leopold
14- The Wedding Planner
15- Enough
16- Runaway Bride
17- Ocean's 11
18- Behind Enemy Lines
19- Shanghai Noon
20- A Knights Tale
21- Sweet Home Alabama
22- Miss Congeniality
23- Never Been Kissed
24- Ever After
25- Emma
Heres the link: http://www.amazon.com/best-movies-that-clean-watch/lm/2TGWXKCMTI3GX
Ok so in retrospect, waaaaay too many of those movies are chick flicks for my own personal taste, but whatever. Better lists to come! In the meantime, I'm gonna go throw on Never Been Kissed. Don't judge.
